Uniforms

Uniforms

Please ensure that if you're joining our club, you order your uniform as soon as possible! There are several ways you can do this:

- Head to out Club Store and purchase it from our supplier. Please note this can incur a 10-15 business day wait for non-custom number requests and 6-8 weeks wait for anyone wanting a specific custom number.

- Visit our supplier Fiddes at 15/24 Brand Dr, Thomastown, Mon - Fri 9am - 4pm to purchase a uniform on the spot and avoid the delivery wait time (if stock is available).

If you have questions regarding uniforms, please contact uniforms@yarrambatphantoms.com.au

The Basics

Basics

The competition is divided into two seasons each year. The Autumn season generally runs from February to June, whilst the Spring season is July to December.

Age groups start at Under 8, which caters for 6 and 7 year old’s, then Under 10's, Under 12's, Under 14's, Under 16's and finally Under 18's. To be eligible for an age group, the player must not have turned that age on or before the cut-off date for each season, in the year the season commences.

Cut-off date for the Autumn Season is in June, and the Spring Season is in December. Each season is approximately 15 or 16 matches, and if the team is eligible for finals, may include 1 to 3 additional matches. Teams play one competition match in any week, with girls and boys on Saturdays/Sundays depending on age level.

Matches can take place at different venues, including:

  • Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre (Courts 1-8)

  • Community Bank Stadium (Courts 1-3)

  • Parade College (Courts 1-3)

  • Diamond Creek Community Centre (1 Court)

  • Catholic Ladies College (Courts 1)

  • RMIT Sports Centre (Courts 1, 3 & 4)

  • St Thomas (1 Court)

  • St Helena Secondary College (2 Courts)

(as well as other smaller locations)

Timing Rules

Timing Rules

For Under 8's
Each game has two 20-minute halves, during which the game clock continuously runs without any stoppages. No timeouts are allowed in either half when the game clock displays 3 minutes or less and there is a two minute break at half time.

Given that Under 8's is about learning the game and having fun, no scores are displayed on the clock for these games. There is also no ladder and no finals series, Diamond Valley organises a 'breakup day' for the players at the end of their season.

For Under 10's & Above

Each game has two 20-minute halves. Teams are granted two, 50-second timeouts per half. In the first half, timeouts are not allowed when the game clock indicates 3 minutes or less.

In the second half, the clock will stop during the last 2 minutes for all whistles and timeouts. An exception to this occurs if the score difference is 20 points or more at any point in the last 2 minutes of the game; in such cases, the clock will continue to run from that point onward, and no timeouts are allowed.

There is a two minute break at half time.

Training

Training

Training is conducted on weeknights and is usually 60 minutes once per week. Throughout each year our club runs basketball clinics, which are a fun event for beginning players to be involved in and to see whether basketball is for them. These clinics are free and conducted at various venues surrounding Yarrambat.

Training for teams takes place on Monday-Thursday evenings, anywhere within 4pm - 9pm. Venues include:

  • Hazel Glen College

  • Ashley Park Primary

  • Plenty Valley Christian College

  • St Helena College

  • Yarrambat Primary

  • Diamond Valley Sports & Fitness Centre

  • Diamond Valley Secondary College

  • Community Bank Stadium

  • Dimond Creek Community Centre

  • Morang South Primary School

(with potential for other venues to be added)

Once registration closes for a season with our teams and coaches decided on, our Venues coordinator will then work with our age level coordinators to place teams into training spots. Due to the large intake of players every season, it’s unfortunately not feasible to be able to give specific times or locations of these training sessions prior to registration closing.

As much as the club wants to assist with parent/guardian availabilities, Yarrambat Phantoms requires team numbers to be finalised before allocating teams into training locations and timeslots. Unfortunately given the large number of players and teams, crossed with the limited number of training time slots we're restricted to, we cannot take parent/guardian requests for training preferences. If you're unable to make your training during the week, please speak to your age level coordinator.

Team Selection

Team Selcton

Team selection is the responsibility of the Boys and Girls Coordinators in consultation with coaches and the committee. Yarrambat Phantoms takes friendship requests from parents/guardians for Under 8’s and 10’s, as well as case by case basis requests from older age groups. If you request to be in a team with someone else, we require permission from both parties in order for this to be considered. Please also note that whilst we try to assist with these, it is not always possible to fulfil player requests. All requests should be emailed through to the age level coordinator.

Team selection is a difficult job and we must respect the outcome of team selection. Unless prior arrangement has been made with the Club Treasurer, only financial members will be eligible for placement within a team.

Teams will generally consist of 7 or 8 players. On some occasions it may be necessary to place additional or fewer players in a team. Teams with 9 players may only be formed with the approval of the team's coach.

To ensure enjoyment and fairness to all players, teams will be selected by taking into consideration:

• Player age and experience

• Player skills and abilities

• Player dedication and behaviour

• Overall team balance

Transfer Requests

Tranfer Requests

In PlayHQ, the process for transfer requests involves several key steps.

Initially, individuals seeking a transfer must submit an application to register with Yarrambat Phantoms. Following this, they will receive prompts to apply for the actual transfer. Approval from their current club is the next crucial step, with a maximum waiting period of 7 days, as mandated by DVBA bylaws.

Subsequently, DVBA reviews and approves the transfer request before we can finalize the transfer. Once completed, a confirmation email is sent to you, signaling that you can proceed with the remaining registration steps.

Importantly, applying for a transfer exempts individuals from the registration cut-off date, ensuring acceptance as long as the transfer request is submitted prior.

Sometimes a team may be short on players, meaning you may be asked to fill-in on a Saturday to help with numbers. Please be aware that there are rules around this and that any fill-in requests must be approved by the age level coordinator first, their contact details can be found here.

A fill in player can only play when the team has less than 6 available players, meaning the maximum amount of fill in players in any given week may only allow the team to reach 6 players. For example, if a team has only 3 allocated players available, they may get a maximum of 3 eligible fill ins. A fill in player can also only play a maximum of 3 games in the season.

A player also cannot fill -in for any other team in their age group. A player also can only fill-in for a team one age group higher than theirs. If this occurs, they can only fill in for a team

• In their designated grade.
• A maximum of one grade lower than their Designated Grade.
• Any grade higher than their Designated Grade.

To use an example: An U10A Grade player can only fill-in for an U12A or U12B grade team. They are not allowed to fill-in for a 12C grade team or lower, because their designated team is A grade. This allocated U10A Grade player is also not allowed to fill-in for any other U10's team.

It's very important this is adhered to, as misplacing a fill-in through the season can affect a teams qualification to play finals.
