THE BASICS
The competition is divided into two seasons each year. The Autumn season generally runs from February to June, whilst the Spring season is July to December.
Age groups start at Under 8, which caters for 6 and 7 year old’s, then Under 10's, Under 12's, Under 14's, Under 16's and finally Under 18's. To be eligible for an age group, the player must not have turned that age on or before the cut-off date for each season, in the year the season commences.
Cut-off date for the Autumn Season is in June, and the Spring Season is in December. Each season is approximately 14 - 16 matches, and if the team is eligible for finals, may include 1 to 3 additional matches. Teams play one competition match in any week, with girls and boys on Saturdays/Sundays depending on age level.
On Saturday, games begin at 8:10am and the last games begin after 5-6pm.
Matches can take place at different venues, including:
-
Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre (Courts 1-8)
-
Community Bank Stadium (Courts 1-3)
-
Parade College (Courts 1-3)
-
Diamond Creek Community Centre (1 Court)
-
Catholic Ladies College (Courts 1)
-
RMIT Sports Centre (Courts 1, 3 & 4)
-
St Thomas (1 Court)
-
St Helena Secondary College (2 Courts)

(as well as other smaller locations)
GAME START TIMES
Use of time blocking in Junior Domestic is implemented to give teams a guide as to when they should expect to play each week in any given age group. There are some factors that can affect times on any given week or season, such as; BigV fixtures, availability of a single or multi-court venue, as well as some extenuating circumstances that are not foreseen.
The approximate age blocking are as follows:
-
U8s play on courts that allow for rings to be lowered, and as such are fixtured from8:10am – 3:40pm on a small number of courts currently available to DVBA.
-
U10: 3 time slots 8:10am - 9:50am start
-
U12: 3 time slots 10:40am - 12:20pm start
-
U14: 3 time slots 1:10pm - 2:50pm start
-
U16, U18, U19: combined time blocking from 2:50 - 6:10pm starts
:
As the number of games in any given age group may not equate to the number of available courts, there may be a small number of matches played outside of these times. If additional venues or courts become available to DVBA at any stage in the future, this may
affect the times detailed above.
TEAM SELECTION & FRIENDSHIPS

Yarrambat Basketball Club promotes:

-
Equal opportunity for all players
-
Creating a balanced competition
-
Participation and enjoyment of the game of basketball
-
Development of basketball and team skill
-
Cultivation of a positive sporting environment
With the club evolving in its growth, Yarrambat Phantoms Basketball Club prioritises forming teams based on skill level and ability, ensuring players are placed in teams that allow them to develop and compete with, and against, players of a similar skillset. With an aim to consistently strive to give every player a positive basketball experience, the clubs focus is to emphasise skill development and team balance to maximize overall potential. This helps to foster growth, forge new friendships and ensure that we remain fair and competitive within the domestic competition.

In forming teams, the club will consider the following:

-
Player age and experience
-
Player skills and abilities
-
Player dedication and behaviour
-
Overall team balance
-
Friendship requests, if feasible
Team selection is the responsibility of the Boys and Girls Coordinators, in consultation with coaches and the committee. On a case-by-case basis, requests to play with specific individuals will need to be reciprocated and you may not get all friends requested. We can not guarantee friendship requests, and the request will need to be deemed feasible by the Age Level Coordinator and the Executive Committee. Friendship requests need to be made for every season, as past requests will not carry over to the new season.

While the club understands and will make efforts to accommodate friendship requests, it is important to note that skill development and team balance take priority during the team selection process. This means friendship requests may not always be possible and should not be considered an expectation of season registration. This policy also applies to entire teams requesting to remain together across seasons. Player skill levels, both individually and within the context of the team and age group, may evolve during the course of the season and must be considered when forming teams.

Once teams have been published, it is the clubs policy that no contact is to be made with the age level coordinator for 48 hours after team publication. If you would like to speak to the age level coordinator about your child’s team, you must wait the designated 48 hours and then send an email with your enquiry or request. All requests must go to the age level coordinator in the first instance. Do not contact the Executive Committee or other committee members about your child’s team, these requests will be forwarded onto the relevant age level coordinator.
It is completely unethical and against our club parent and coaches code of conduct to yell, abuse, swear at or make threats towards any age level coordinator or club committee member. Any instances of this being reported will result in potential removal from the club.
FRIENDSHIP REQUEST POLICY

All requests should be emailed to your relevant age level coordinator. Please be aware that the following rules apply to friendship requests at Yarrambat Phantoms Basketball Club:

- Yarrambat Phantoms Basketball Club uses player skill and ability in order to accurately form even, skill based teams as a priority. This means all friendship requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and should not be considered an expectation of season registration.

- Due to coordinator changeovers, any previous friendship requests will not automatically carry over from previous seasons.
- Friendship requests must be mutual. Requests that are not reciprocated by the other party before registration closes will not be considered.
- Friendship requests must be completed prior to the close of registration and pending extenuating circumstances, will not be accepted once the registration period has closed.

- Friendship requests are always considered, but not guaranteed as per the 'Team Selection & Friendships' guidelines. Any use of the friendship request system to specifically group players into pre-arranged teams is disallowed.
- If your friendship request is not met, you may contact the age level coordinator via email to discuss. It is club policy that no contact is to be made with the age level coordinator for 48 hours after team publication.
TIMING RULES
For Under 8's
Each game has two 20-minute halves, during which the game clock continuously runs without any stoppages. No timeouts are allowed in either half when the game clock displays 3 minutes or less and there is a two minute break at half time.
Given that Under 8's is about learning the game and having fun, no scores are displayed on the clock for these games. There is also no ladder and no finals series, Diamond Valley organises a 'breakup day' for the players at the end of their season.
For Under 10's & Above

Each game has two 20-minute halves. Teams are granted two, 50-second timeouts per half. In the first half, timeouts are not allowed when the game clock indicates 3 minutes or less.
In the second half, the clock will stop during the last 2 minutes for all whistles and timeouts. An exception to this occurs if the score difference is 20 points or more at any point in the last 2 minutes of the game; in such cases, the clock will continue to run from that point onward, and no timeouts are allowed.
There is a two minute break at half time.
TRAINING
Training is conducted on weeknights and is usually 60 minutes once per week. Throughout each year our club runs basketball clinics, which are a fun event for beginning players to be involved in and to see whether basketball is for them. These clinics are free and conducted at various venues surrounding Yarrambat.

Training for teams takes place on Monday-Thursday evenings, anywhere within 4pm - 9pm. Venues include:
Hazel Glen College
Ashley Park Primary
Plenty Valley Christian College
St Helena College
Yarrambat Primary
Diamond Valley Sports & Fitness Centre
Diamond Valley Secondary College
Community Bank Stadium
Dimond Creek Community Centre
Morang South Primary School
(with potential for other venues to be added)
Once registration closes for a season with our teams and coaches decided on, our Venues coordinator will then work with our age level coordinators to place teams into training spots. Due to the large intake of players every season, it’s unfortunately not feasible to be able to give specific times or locations of these training sessions prior to registration closing. We do however, attempt to prioritise earlier training time slots for younger players.
As much as the club wants to assist with parent/guardian availabilities, Yarrambat Phantoms requires team numbers to be finalised before allocating teams into training locations and timeslots. Unfortunately given the large number of players and teams, crossed with the limited number of training time slots we're restricted to, we cannot take parent/guardian requests for training preferences. If you're unable to make your training during the week, please speak to your age level coordinator.
TRANSFER REQUESTS
In PlayHQ, the process for transfer requests involves several key steps.

Initially, individuals seeking a transfer must submit an application to register with Yarrambat Phantoms. Following this, they will receive prompts to apply for the actual transfer. Approval from their current club is the next crucial step, with a maximum waiting period of 7 days, as mandated by DVBA bylaws.

Subsequently, DVBA reviews and approves the transfer request before we can finalize the transfer. Once completed, a confirmation email is sent to you, signaling that you can proceed with the remaining registration steps.
Importantly, applying for a transfer exempts individuals from the registration cut-off date, ensuring acceptance as long as the transfer request is submitted prior.
FILL IN PLAYERS
Sometimes a team may be short on players, meaning you may be asked to fill-in on a Saturday to help with numbers. Please be aware that there are rules around this and that any fill-in requests must be approved by the age level coordinator first, their contact details can be found here.

A fill in player can only play when the team has less than 6 available players, meaning the maximum amount of fill in players in any given week may only allow the team to reach 6 players. For example, if a team has only 3 allocated players available, they may get a maximum of 3 eligible fill ins. A fill in player can also only play a maximum of 3 games in the season.
A player also cannot fill -in for any other team in their age group. A player also can only fill-in for a team one age group higher than theirs. If this occurs, they can only fill in for a team
• In their designated grade.
• A maximum of one grade lower than their Designated Grade.
• Any grade higher than their Designated Grade.
To use an example: An U10A Grade player can only fill-in for an U12A or U12B grade team. They are not allowed to fill-in for a 12C grade team or lower, because their designated team is A grade. This allocated U10A Grade player is also not allowed to fill-in for any other U10's team.
It's very important this is adhered to, as misplacing a fill-in through the season can affect a teams qualification to play finals.
